Pulse measurement

Pulse measurement during athletic training is used for pulse control. It is the essential means for the athlete to monitor his training according to the specifications and his goals and to perform it according to the definition of his training heart rate. Chest straps, ear clips and handgrip measurements have proven to be suitable instruments for heart rate measurement.

Of course, pulse measurement can also be performed without such auxiliary devices. To do this, it is best to count the pulse at the carotid artery for 15 sec. long, multiply the value by four to determine the heart rate per minute. During training, however, this method of heart rate measurement is rather impractical; heart rate monitors are more accurate here and therefore useful for maintaining appropriate training ranges.
