WTB (Wilderness Trail Bikes) is one of the pioneers among MTB brands and was founded in 1982 in Marin County, California. At the time there was a lack of high quality MTB accessories, because mountain bikes in the early 80s were also more of the oddly put together oddities, but certainly not the socially established bike models that were common at the time. The three founders, including Mark Slate, nevertheless took on the challenge of developing durable and stable components. Word got around and quickly there were inquiries from regional bicycle manufacturers who wanted to equip their bikes with high-quality WTB materials. This is how WTB began manufacturing components. And with success!
Today WTB is an extraordinarily successful, globally active company that not only has high-performance MTB tires and saddles in its program, but is also a leader in the emerging gravel sector. Not for nothing is the WTB “Byway 47” tire one of the most popular gravel tires ever.
In addition to its entrepreneurial success, WTB is also committed to charitable and ecological causes. Whether it’s a funding program for safe routes to school, bikeable routes, or making disused tunnels usable as bike lanes. Only one thing counts: making the world a little better. True to the WTB motto: “Saving the world with bicycles”.
